Turning
struggles into strengths through concept games.

About Us

About Us

Dog training has come a long way over the years. Science progresses, our
knowledge grows, and we learn and change the way we do things as a result.

Our aim is to help dogs to survive and thrive in the world around them by
establishing a strong and happy relationship with their human guardians.
Using fun and positive games-based training methods we seek to satisfy each
dog’s instinctive drive whilst helping them to learn important life skills

and enjoy a fulfilled life.

Knowledge is power! Whether we are working with your new puppy, a rescued
dog, a senior dog or a dog with behavioural struggles, our focus will first be to
explain how our style of training works, so that all human participants can
recognise and interpret their dog’s behaviour and the basic principles

of how dogs learn.

Many dog training establishments attempt to change dog behaviour directly.
Concept training recognises that behaviour is driven by emotion, and so our
focus is to change the dog’s emotional response, helping them to learn through
the consequences of their actions in a fun, kind and respectful way.

Teaching concepts such as impulse control, management of arousal, focus,
optimism, calmness, and disengagement, as opposed to behaviours and
‘commands’
such as sit and down, teaches the dog to think, to make good
choices and encourage them to want to work and play with you. The
relationship improves and the results flow. Playing games with a dog teaches
concepts and actually shapes a dog’s brain to continue to make great choices!

Testimonials

I arrived at Sallie’s with my rescue dog Marnie feeling quite despairing. Marnie had been with me for 6 months and was 20 months old. So, her issues, background & reactions were and always will be guess work. She had arrived meek, quiet and seemed quite affable. But 4-5 months in I was seeing her reactivity peak as if out of nowhere. Now I know from weekly 1:1 sessions with Sallie that there is no ‘out of nowhere’! Her approach is warm, calm and full of much needed solutions. She gives you back the confidence you (may) have lost by helping you understand how our dogs think. Pointing out the often very subtle signs that they give off before the reaction. Once you start to absorb these yourself your understanding of them as animals & companions really changes. It deepens and you see the whole of your pet and their personality, not just the obvious bits. The location is very spacious, calm and just lovely to be in. For Marnie & myself it is taking time and a commitment to learning. You have to be prepared to give this in an unquantifiable amount. After around eight or so ‘1:1’ sessions we were able to join the puppy class. Six classes later & we are in the next level puppy class. Although very much at the beginning of this with much more accomplished dogs. The socialisation Marnie gets from these situations is as invaluable as the things we are both being taught. Being around other people & dogs whilst learning is a huge feat in itself for a rescue like Marnie. Now we also train with Olivia in the group classes & she is as calm, knowledgeable, and wonderful as Sallie. I look forward to every session and even though it is proving quite a journey with Marnie, seeing the results and her improve is worth the time & patience needed. Can’t recommend it enough.

 - Marnie
